State fines local entities for wastewater, air violations

A gas flare burns near Cheapside. An oil and gas operator in Lavaca County was recently fined by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for operating a flare without a continuous pilot flame.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality approved fines at its Wednesday meeting for environmental violations at local facilities, including an oil and gas operation in Lavaca County and two wastewater treatment plants in Victoria County.

Sulphur River Exploration was fined $16,875 for several air violations at its operation near the intersection of County Road 165 and Farm-to-market-Road 318 in Lavaca County.

Bloomington water district violations July 14, 2021

The Bloomington water district was fined $33,000 for failing to comply with permitted effluent limitations for flow, ammonia nitrogen, total suspended solids and dissolved oxygen from June 2018 to March 2019. The effluent violations are included in the table pictured.

Aqua Texas violation enforcement July 14, 2020

As pictured, the levels of E.Coli, total suspended solids and biochemical oxygen demand for Aqua Texas's waste water treatment plant in the Brentwood Manor subdivision were in violation of permitted effluent limitations August - October 2019.
