U.S. 59 overpass near Telferner

A tractor-trailer crashed on a U.S. 59 overpass near Telferner on Wednesday morning after its driver fell asleep at the wheel, authorities said.

A tractor-trailer crashed on an overpass Wednesday morning, spilling its load of automotive parts along a Victoria County highway.

At 12:47 a.m., the tractor-trailer’s driver, Gerardo Torres, 36, of Brownsville, fell asleep at the wheel while northbound on U.S. 59 overpass near Telferner, said Sgt. Ruben San Miguel, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The overpass goes over Farm-to-Market Road 1686.
