Victoria County Commissioners Court

Victoria County Commissioners Court

Victoria County commissioners on Monday in a divided vote approved a new purchasing policy for the county that is meant to make county spending more consistent and transparent.

The purchasing policy approved in a 3-2 vote was the third draft to come in front of the court for review this year.

Glenn Wilson is right on point. Janak was at the heart of the airport repair bid boondoggle and now resists any attempts to prevent it from happening again. He and Ives are not able to adapt to 21st century transparency and generally accepted business practices. They must go.

To clarify my first comment let me add that the requirement is for the purchaser to get three informal quotes, not just one. And that's what was adopted over the Janak and Ives votes against.

"the requirement is for the purchaser to get three informal quotes, not three formal bids" -- The problem with this for Janak and Ives, IMO, is that it eliminates their easily being able to hand projects out to their good ol' boy buddies and benefactors. Their comments against the measure make no sense whatsoever in any other context. Do they not realize this, or do they think the voters don't? Given the ever increasing quality of our city and county managers and officials, these two appear to be the last links back to the bad old days. To those voters who reside in their precinct, please do what needs to be done to sweep out the last of the debris.
