Editor’s Note: The 87th Legislative session will begin Jan. 12 in Austin. The Advocate will run a series of stories previewing key issues in the session from city and county government to education as well as public safety and health care, among others. Friday’s topic is public safety government.

Victoria County’s district attorney is skeptical of a bill filed regarding Texas’s “Stand Your Ground” law and believes a referendum on marijuana legalization could be the most feasible route to passage.

IMO, the health and well-being of someone trespassing on private property with the intent of doing harm to anything or anyone is not the responsibility or concern of the property owner or legal occupant. Also, one cannot protect their property if they're hiding out in the house. Certainly, call the police, but when seconds count the police are minutes away.
