Jessica Priest is a senior reporter at the Victoria Advocate focusing on the environment and Calhoun County.
From August 2012 to March 2017, Jessica worked as the courts reporter for the Victoria Advocate. Some of the topics she has written about include juvenile justice, indigent defense and law enforcement misconduct. She has earned dozens of awards for her work, including gavel awards from State Bar two years in a row. Most recently, Jessica's series, "Minds that Matter," was named Star Investigative Report of the Year and Star Online Report of the Year for Division 3 by the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors. The series on mental health was started after she earned a fellowship in 2015 from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Jessica is from Katy, TX. Prior to coming to Victoria, she worked as a journalist in Temple, Houston and Huntsville.
Jessica is an alumnus of Sam Houston State University, where the motto is "a measure of its life is its service." She thinks journalism a public service.
